          Officer Tyron Franklin was shot and killed after being identified as a police officer during a robbery attempt at a local fast-food restaurant. The robber approached him, while retrieving his food, and demanded for his money. During the ensuing struggle, the robber produced a handgun and shot him four times. As Franklin lay on the ground, a witness on the scene yelled at the robber saying “the victim was an officer,” Franklin was then shot two more times. The shooter also shot and wounded another citizen who attempted to come to Officer Franklin’s assistance and fled the scene immediately.

 

          On January 16, 2007, the fugitive was later found and arrested by officers the Paterson Police Department and U.S. Marshals in nearby Irvington, New Jersey. He is now serving 37 years life in prison for the murder of Officer Tyron Franklin. Tyron Franklin had only served 8 months with the Paterson Police Department. He is survived by his son Tyron Jr.
